Can zinc be green?

Can Zinc be green?

If you compare with other production processes, die casted zinc is greener than most.

Melting temperature around 400 °C makes it possible to melt the raw material with the use of less energy than other casting processes. In addition we always strive to reduce our internal as well as external impact on the environment as much as possible. In the future respect for the environment and sustainability will continuously grow to be a larger part of Great Design.

Our consumption of zinc, electricity and water

In our production the main resource- and environmental parameters are the raw material consumption in the form of Zinc alloys and the energy consumption in the form of electricity. Our water consumption and waste water is namely practically reduced to sanitary outlets as we in 2002 invested in a recirculation system in our trouvalisation plant. The coolantwater circulates in a closed loop system, where impact on the environment is reduced to the evaporation of water from the coolant tower.

We use 95% of the zinc alloy – the remains are recirculated

Today we use 95% of the zinc alloy for production of zinc parts by remelting and reuse of the inlet and scrap from punching. The remaining 5% in form of zinc foam as well as other zinc scrap is exported for reuse abroad. Waste such as grinding dust and slags from the trouvalisation water treatment plant is disposed of in approved containers.

The environment is part of daily worklife

All employes are continuously informed of the environmental efforts made by the company and the management ensures furthermore, that the safetyinstructions are followed in all parts of the production. The environmental policy is an integrated part of the education programme for all employes.
